Why do we promote a website? Or why do we optimize and get incoming links for a site?

Obviously to increase page rank in search engine result pages for different keywords. However, most of the inexperienced webmasters simply resort to traditional link building tactics like reciprocal linking, directory submission etc. They do not get much of targeted users from those directories. They only contribute to increase website’s popularity in search engine.

If you’re a new blogger, creating a blog is easy. However, gaining a regular readership can be a challenge.

You knew there had to be a catch, right?

4. Create a newsletter for your blog

Treat your blog as a business, which is what it is, if you hope to make money blogging.

As a business, you exist to serve customers. Your readers are your customers. Create a newsletter for your readers to keep them coming back to your blog.

Since your blog has an RSS feed, there are tools online which will turn your RSS feed into a newsletter automatically, without any effort on your part.

5. Pay attention to keywords in your blog’s topic

Over time, you’ll get the most traffic to your blog directly from the Web search engines, like Google. On my established blogs, 90 per cent of the traffic comes from the search engines.

So how does that traffic arrive? It arrives because people type keywords into the search query field in one of the search engines.

Since the Web search engines are essentially indexing software, they index your blog’s content. If your content contains the keywords typed in by searchers, your blog’s posts will appear in the search query results and you’ll get traffic.

However, the real value of a blog will depend on how much traffic it gets. Your blog is like a shopping mall, without visitors, there will be no business.

Therefore, it is important to know how to drive traffic to your blog if you wish to use it to promote and grow your business.

Here are 5 tips you can use to generate more traffic to your blogs:

Tip 1: Get Links:

Getting links is perhaps the most important traffic generation strategy for online marketing. A link from other blogs to your blog simply means that people are voting or giving points to your blog. The more links you get, the more traffic you’ll get. Besides traffic, blogs that have many links from other blogs will also rank well by the search engines.

Perhaps you’ve heard about reciprocal linking, where you link to a blog and it links back to you. This is an obsolete strategy as the search engine (especially Goolge) doesn’t give much value for it anymore. Google gives higher value to “one-way” link. The new strategy is called 3-way links. For example: A —> B —> C —> A. This strategy will give you more power as Google sees this as three “one-way” links.

Tip 2: Blog Comments:

Leaving or posting a good comments in other blogs/sites that are related to your niche can help to drive some targeted traffic to your blog. The trick here is to find blogs/sites that have great content/stories and post a short but useful comment and then include a link back to your blog. This way, people who are interested will be able to visit your blog as well. However, you should not misuse this strategy to spam or leave useless comments on other blogs. If you do this, your comments will just get deleted by the owners.

Tip 3: Submit & Ping Blog Directories:

Submitting and pinging your blog to blog directories such as technorati, pingoat.com, feedshark.brainbliss.com, etc. will get you some backlinks and traffic. Read this article “Tag and Ping” for more info.

Tip 4: Writing Articles:

This is one of the best ways of driving targeted and long-term traffic to your blog. By writing and submitting articles to some top article directories, you can pull in a lot of targeted visitors/readers to your blog. Just remember to include the resource box. This is the area for you to put an author bio and link back to your blog.

Submit your articles to the following four article directories:
1. EzineArticles.com
2. GoArticles.com
3. ArticleDashBoard.com
4. IdeaMarketers.com

From my experience, the above are the best to drive some great traffic. There are many other article directories but a lot of them are useless when it comes to driving targeted traffic to your blog. If you only want to submit to one article directory, submit to the first one.

Tip 5: Participating In Forum:

Forums can be a great strategy to drive some targeted traffic to your blog. In order for this strategy to work, you need to look for forums that are related to your niche. If you have a blog about Acid Reflux, you can try searching for a forum that is related to acid reflux. For example: just type “acid reflux +forum” in Google and you’ll be able to see many forums that talk about acid reflux.

Most forums will usually allow you to include a signature file where you can write a few sentences and put your blog’s URL there. If you participate regularly and provide some useful info or comments, people will be interested to find out more about you. They will then check out your signature file and visit your blog.

If you’re using a WordPress blog and want to learn how to use TAG and PING to increase traffic, you’ve come to the right place. In this post, I will share with you how to easily take advantage of TAG and PING in wordpress to double your traffic.

First, what is TAG and PING?

Tag and Ping is almost the same thing as Blog and Ping with only one difference. The Pinging part is the same. But in Tag and Ping, you put your targeted keywords in the “tag field” (located right below your wordpress editor - see picture below).

If you want to take advantage of Tag and Ping to get more traffic to your blog, you MUST type in your targeted keywords (separated by commas) in the “tag field” before you publish your post. If you do that, your targeted keywords will be picked up by those blog directory sites when you Ping them.

But, in order to make use of Tag and Ping, you must first set it up by following the TWO steps below….

1. Add your wordpress “ping list” (this list consists of a bunch of blog/RSS directories). To do this, log on to your wordpress, then click on “Options > Writing”, scroll down to the “Update Services” and paste in the “png list”. Below is my wordpress ping list, you can just copy and paste it into your wordpress.

Here are simple and effective ways to get your pages and keywords indexed and spidered in Google…

1. Make sure your site has a blog and RSS feed. If you’ve a hosted site, you should use wordpress as your blog. If you don’t have a hosted site, then use blogger.

2. Once you have a blog (if you use wordpress or blogger, you will always have RSS feed), write an article containing your targeted keywords and post it to your blog.

3. Go to each of the following sites and ping the RSS directories. For each site, you need to do four things: (i) type in your “blog name” (ii) type in your “blog URL” (iii) type in your “RSS feed”* (iv) select the RSS directories you want to ping.
(a) pingoat.com
(b) feedshark.brainbliss.com
(c) pingomatic.com

*NOTE: The RSS feed for wordpress usually looks like this: “www.yourdomain.com/feed”. And for blogger, it will look like this: “yourblogname.blogspot.com/atom.xml”.

4. Now submit a small part of your article to these 5 sites: Digg, StumbleUpon, Propeller, Del.icio.us, and Reddit.

P.S. For every post you submit to your blog, repeat the above steps. If you do this, your pages will be indexed and pidered by Google in matter of hours. You can verify this by typing your post title into Google search box. For example, type “How To Get Indexed By Google And Get More Traffic” (include the quotes). You should see your post page appears and the best part is that you will also get some traffic to your site.

These two sites have very high traffic volume. There are tons of people visiting these sites to read or submit articles everyday.

Let’s start with EzineArticles.com…

1. Go to ezinearticles.com

2. You will see a list of Categories. Select the category you like and click on it.

3. When you click on a category, it will expand and show you a list of sub-categories or topics.

4. Click on a topic you’re interested in and you will see all the articles under that topic.

5. Now, just click on any article you want to view and scroll all the way down until you see “Most Viewed EzineArticles…”

6. Under the “Most Viewed EzineArticles….”, you will see another list of articles. Select the top articles and read them. NOTE1: the reason we select to read articles here is because we only want to comment on articles that have the most readers or visitors. NOTE2: you can also find out how many times a particular article has been viewed by scrolling all the way down at the bottom of the article. You will see something like “This article has been viewed 11,184 time(s)”. This is another indicator for you to assess how many visitors a particular article has.

7. Now, to comment on an article, just click on the “Comment” link. Then enter your name, your comment and your URL.

Now, let’s go to HubPages.com …

When you arrive at the HubPages home page, you don’t see a list of category like EzineArticles. But, there is a search button. What you can do here is to enter a keyword or phrase in the search box. HubPages will return a list of articles and you can see each article has a score. This score is an indication of how pouplar is that particular article (the higher the score or number the better).

NOTE: I suggest you only select and submit comment on those articles that have a score above 60. It’s easy to submit a comment, just click an article and read it. The submit comment form is at the bottom of each article.

Technorati can be considered as a MASSIVE directories that record blogging activities. In this post I will show you how to use Technorati tagging to improve your search engine rankings, increase links to your blog and drive more traffic to your site.But, what are Tags? Basically tags are similar to keywords, they are used to described and categorized your posts or articles. Technorati uses tags to categorize blogs or blog posts.

So, how do you take advantage of Technorati to bring more traffic to your blog?

Here are the steps to use Technorati tagging for traffic generation…

1. Go to www.technorati.com and create an account (it’s free).

2. Now sign into Technorati using your account. Scroll down the screen until you see the “Technorati Tools” menu.

3. Under “Technorati Tools”, you will see a link “Claim your blog”.

4. Now click on the “Claim your blog” link and then enter your blog’s URL and click on “Begin Claim” button.

5. Now click on “Use Quick Claim” link, Technorati will then ask you to enter your blog username and password. NOTE: you must enter the correct username and password here! This is how Technorati verify that you are the authorised user for this blog.

6. If you enter your blog username and password correctly, you will see the message: “Congratulations! You’ve successfully claimed your blog.”

7. Now the last step is to enter a descriptions of your blog in a description field and keywords in the tags fields. Technorati provides many tags fields for you to enter as many relevant keywords as possible to describe your blog. Make sure you take advantage of it. After you enter a description of your blog and relevant keywords, click “Save Blog Info” button and you’re done!

Ok, now you have claimed your blog in Technorati. The next question is how do you get tagged by Technorati? In other words… how do you use tags in your blog post so that it can be tagged in Technorati?

If you’re using wordpress blog, wordpress provide a tag field for you to enter your tags or targeted keywords when you create your post (see screenshot below).

IMPORTANT TIPS: if you want to take advantage of Technorati tagging to improve search engine rankings, backlinks and increase traffic to your blog, you must enter some relevant tags or keywords into your wordpress tags field before publishing the post.
